The Schonstedt 1205CXB Time Domain Reflectometer and Cable Analyzer is designed to locate faults and discontinuities in copper and other multi-conductor cable systems. It sends an electrical pulse through the cable and analyzes the reflected signal to identify open circuits, short circuits, high-resistance joints, water ingress, cable joints, changes in cable type, and the end of the line. Positive reflections generally indicate open circuits or high-impedance faults, while negative reflections can indicate short circuits or low-impedance faults. By positioning the dual cursors at the launch and reflected pulses, operators can measure the distance to the fault and assess its severity using automatic return-loss calculations.
The 1205CXB features selectable pulse widths from 3 ns to 10 µs, a Velocity of Propagation range from 10.0% to 99.9%, and accuracy of 0.1% of the reading ± 4 inches. Its 7-inch color display shows cable waveforms, distance, time, cursor position, and return-loss measurements, while signal averaging helps reduce interference. The unit supports test ranges up to 99,000 feet, depending on cable type and VOP setting, and stores up to 500 waveforms internally. USB connectivity allows files to be transferred for viewing, printing, and archiving with WaveView™ PC software. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately six hours of operation, and the rugged enclosure is rated IP54 with the lid open and IP68 when closed.
